Border Talk Between Cambodia and Thailand Gets Good Result
Yesterday 28 July 2008, the second Foreign Ministerial Talk between Cambodia and Thailand got fruitful results. The two sides agreed to raise the border dispute to talk within Border Committee and to ease the military tension by withdrawing armed forces from the Keo Sekha Kiri Svara pagoda. The time frame and schedule for border dispute talk and the withdrawing are not set yet.
This result should be acceptable while the we want peace, solidarity and cooperation that would provide mutual benefits among the two nations. This result is not different to what I and my friends had talk. There are only two options, fighting at international arena or bilateral talk by the two side agree to solve the border issue, while agree upon withdrawing the military forces. Among our talk, we think that the withdrawing of armed troops would mean that Cambodia agree with Thailand that the border dispute at the Preah Vihear pagoda is the white areas, where the two nations could claim for benefits. We found that without any concession or soft position by one among the two sides, there will be not result.
However, regardless of what they think of or they interpret this deal, the important thing is to ease military tension, and pave the way for peaceful talk and give opportunity for country development. The talk must be sure that the two side, especially Thailand will not deploy its troops again at the disputed border. Thus, the first and main task to do is to withdraw soldiers.

I was hoping the opposition party could have won more seats so as to bolster our fledging democracy. Now, it seems, the CPP will have an even tighter grip on power, which I don’t have anything against it, so long they continue to steer the country on the right course and do their utmost to preserve, if not promote, what little democratic elements we still have in this country.
