23 May 2008 Gives Hope for Rice Production
The sacred oxen have not touched alcohol and herbs, removing the bad omens of epidemics and disasters in Cambodia. The Royal Cow ceremony, which took place Friday, May 23 at the Royal Palace as is the tradition reintroduced by Norodom Sihanouk in 1963, was chaired by King Norodom Sihamoni attended by senior officials of Parliament, Senior officials, teachers and students in total about 1,000 persons watching the ceremony.
It is a signal of entering the rainy season and the beginning of the agricultural work on the delineation of the first three rows of the sacred rice fields, on the esplanade of Veal Men.
The royal cow ceremony gives results that the rains this year are sufficient and climate favorable to agriculture which involves nearly two-thirds of the population and rice production will be high.
