Cambodia Will Join OREC
Rise of rice price in the world has becoming a noteworthy agenda of Asian countries, having agriculture potential to increase rice production for export. Though some nations’ rice have big market share, it is a little difficult to influence market price. Currently, Thailand and Vietnam shared about 40% of rice market in the world. Considering this, Cambodia which already publicly announce any possibility to form an association of exporting countries last year will join the association.
Whatever the name of this association, the concept is to unite all potential countries in rice production and export to make the current price of rice better in the future. A kind like a cartel in the form Organization of Rice Exporting Countries will include Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. However, this rice body does not talk in detail.
The formation of this group will give good opportunity for Cambodia to contribute to the world rice supply and Cambodia could take advantages in this newly formed organization. This will also encourage Cambodia to boost its rice production which is not currently fully used to its maximum potential.
