Inflation has been becoming an important topic among Cambodians, particularly politicians who are trying to attract audiences, saying voters, to support them in the upcoming election scheduled 27 July 2008. People complaint about high price of necessary goods such as rice, gas, fuel, and food that is affecting their daily lives.  As it is a common issue in the whole country, political parties who committed to join in the election wish to take this rare opportunity to gain popularity or fight against its rivalries. Thus, every party has proposed inflation/high price of goods in their political platform.

This situation just becomes in the recent months, while news and information about high price become global and domestic concerns. Ruling party, Cambodia’s People Party, is trying to explain the reasons of high price which mainly is the global trends and effects and other non-ruling parties are trying to blame the government on its lack of ability to lower the price. Some parties have initiated ideas to conduct public forums and other organized demonstration to express ideas over the inflation.

This is another emerging issue in Cambodia as inflation had not been raised as a hot issue and proposed in political parties’ agenda. Before, parties talked mostly about immigration, territory, corruption, etc. But, now it is observed that they turn to strongly focus on economic issues as example policies to lower price, job creation, ensuring economic growth and social safety, etc. This is real while Cambodia has experienced with peace, stability and economic growth in recent years. Higher income, higher living standard and globalization have made economic issue as a priority for parties and government.
