Yesterday, I heard a real story in Phnom Penh about a strange wedding. The wedding was yesterday on Saturday 5th April 2008 between a Cambodian girl and an American man. On the wedding day, the American groom did not come to the wedding and people said he could not come on time because of air flight matters. However, the wedding was still operated with only a bride and the groom was absent. When I heard about this, I found that it was very strange. Is this traditionally recognized? After the wedding, do people/society assume that the bride now has an husband?

My question is that why the bride parents decided to continue the wedding ceremony? Why did they not cancel the ceremony? I think that it is an experience which all Cambodians have to take into serious account. People have to make sure that the groom shall be present at pre, during and post wedding day. Particularly, people must be careful with the marriage with foreigners.
